Emma Carter awarded joint annual EPIC award

Congratulations to Emma Carter for winning this year’s EPIC award.

As 2020 draws to a close, our internal awards known as the ‘EPICs’ reward employees who have truly lived and breathed our values. This year we are delighted to award a joint EPIC - the highest honour bestowed on an employee - to Emma Carter and Chris Gwyther.

The EPICs epitomise our values and are voted by employees and the leadership team for the culmination of an individual’s work throughout the year that was. They are rewarded with the equivalent of a £1,000 prize and plaque on the EPIC Hall of Fame wall.

Here’s what Emma and the judges had to say…

How did it feel to be named joint winner of the EPIC Award 2020?

It was special to be nominated after such an uncertain year; one in which so much of my work – especially involving digital experiences and software - was so new. To know that what I contributed was helpful to the business and that I did a good job so far outside of my comfort zone feels great.

Which EPIC values really count for you & why?

Intelligent Thinking. I’m proud that we don’t just throw an idea at something because it’s ‘cool’. We always back up concepts with solid reasoning to represent the user and the user journey in any particular space. Collaborative Working was also very important in 2020. My own role was previously more towards Phoenix Wharf, but in 2020 I worked right across the Group and enjoyed finding where my creative skills could help most and add insight.

What are you most proud of in your work for Istoria Group and Phoenix Wharf?

Flexibility! I’m very proud of having worked from concept to detailing across retail, hospitality and both physical and virtual exhibits in 2020, as well as creating illustrated sector insight pieces for the media. Being hands-on and getting stuck into whatever was most needed is something I’m definitely proud of.

What personally motivates you?

Knowing I have done the absolute best that I can. I love winning pitches and I love that as a group, we are really good at what we do and that we are perceived to be leading-edge by others too. I also just love the feeling of winning!

Emma Carter
Associate Creative Director
Phoenix Wharf

Emma has worked tirelessly this year on live client work, insight pieces and dedicating time to get new team members up to speed. Her creative ability underpins much of what we deliver as a business. She really has embraced the spirit of the Group this year as well as pretty much single-handedly delivering The Bristol Loaf project!
